1st week in NZ

10 oktober 2022 - Howick, Nieuw-Zeeland

Hello there!

So I’m now one week all in in NZ. I arrived safely at Auckland’s airport on Friday the 30th of September after a way to long flight of 22hours and a total of 28hours of traveling. I spend my first  night at an hotel next to the airport as I was landing in the middle of the night. On Saturday, the adventure in NZ really began with a lot of rain. I took a bus to the city center and headed directly to my hostel to drop of my bags. I immediately met some nice people who helped me get a bus card and gave me some handy tips. I went to bed really early cause i was extremely jet lagged. I met a really nice girl called Alice who comes from the UK with whom I spend most of my time this past week. We went to the bank (which took ages), went to the art gallery, the Auckland war memorial museum, and on a few hikes (mount Eden, one tree hill, Oakley creek waterfall).

My feelings after my first week are a bit mixed. To be completely honest for the moment I’m a bit disappointed by Auckland but I’ve talked with a few people in the hostel and I’m not the only one who feels that way. I’m pretty excited to get out to some smaller cities.

Next week I’m staying at one of my mum’s friends place to get some rest, get out of the city a bit, and do some hikes. My real next step is Tauranga on the East coast where I’ve booked one week, then I’ll be heading to Rotorua for another week and then I’ll be spending 2 weeks in Taupo.
